According to the Roman architect Vitruvius – who gave the world the first written treatise on architectural theory: De Architectura – a good building should satisfy three key principles: durability, utility and beauty.
Later, American architect Louis Sullivan, known as “the father of skyscrapers”, promoted the concept that "form follows function”.
In an era when aesthetics and functionality are of significant importance in modern architecture, ETEM offers a wide collection of systems to meet traditional and contemporary architectural requirements.
“Buildings should serve people, not the other way around.” (John Portman)
That’s why ETEM’s product range for architectural systems offers such a huge variety of solutions – façades, windows, doors, sliding systems, sun shading systems, railings, plus many others – that give architects the power to make their ideas come alive.
As well as offering a wide range of existing systems and solutions, ETEM can create bespoke systems to any specification, to allow any design to become a reality.
ETEM can be sure of addressing the requirements of both residential and commercial markets, and customers can benefit from a system that absolutely meets their needs. ETEM’s systems offer flexibility, durability, and great strength.
Energy conservation has been a fundamental element of ETEM’s new generation of energy efficient designs. Functionality, aesthetic appearance and long-lasting performance have all been incorporated into systems that offer increased levels of thermal insulation, noise reduction, resistance to wind loads and water penetration.
“Good buildings come from good people, and all problems are solved by good design.” (Stephen Gardiner)
At ETEM we believe that the quality of our products has a big impact on the environment and the conditions they operate in. Modern architectural developments often need custom made solutions to capture the aesthetic, functional and environmental requirements of the project. Given the complexity and uniqueness of each project, our engineers and architects work closely with each client throughout the project, in constant communication and integrating into interdisciplinary teams of architects, developers, contractors and investors to ensure a holistic approach.
The most important stage in the successful completion of a project is an initial in-depth study of each individual case. At ETEM, with 40+ years of engagement in large private and commercial projects, we have established a special team of in-house engineers and architects who work with a project architect, engineer, or developer to address all the issues regarding a structure throughout its lifespan. We believe that the quality of a building has a direct influence on the quality of life of those inside it. Requirements in the buildings we design today extend beyond conventional adaptations. Architectural design has to converge with energy conservation principles, user safety, sound and water insulation, functionality and durability, according to the use of the structure, as well as low maintenance costs over time. We design our products to be inspirational for the designer and not limiting, in terms of creativity. Our dedicated team provides valuable assistance to a project architect, engineer or developer during the specification stage. With our academic and technical expertise, combined with long-standing experience in project development, we support the project by defining the appropriate specifications that help to achieve the construction goals.
Today’s building projects are increasingly more complex, requiring technical solutions that a few years ago would be unrealisable, if not impossible. The nature of these projects is often highly demanding, necessitating a holistic and in-depth knowledge of all the different building components. Our dedicated team of architects and engineers have years of practical experience and extensive training between them. They are able to analyse a project, taking into consideration all factors, including design, functionality, energy conservation, thermal and water insulation and static compliance. The combination of deep knowhow, along with experience gained over the years, sets ETEM apart in terms of the knowledge we have and the solutions we can apply. We are able to integrate an ETEM solution with surrounding building materials, guaranteeing that the end result will meet specifications – a skill that is greatly valued by our customers. However, our role goes beyond suggestions based on our existing systems or solutions. The added value that we offer is our ability to thoroughly analyse a project, identify current and future needs, and design a solution that is specially developed to cover technical, functional or even architectural design requirements. From 1971 onward, starting with the first high rise in Athens (Athens Tower - 103m tall), the “Defense” in Paris and the “Capital Fort” tower in Sofia, ETEM has been called upon to provide solid engineering solutions and develop custom new aluminium systems, unique to each project.
At ETEM we know that thorough, in-depth design is fundamental to the successful completion of a project. Proper definition and synthesis of the different building components can prevent and resolve difficulties that might arise during construction. Decisions need to be quick and effective, so as to address an issue successfully and avoid delay. At ETEM, our projects team also offers assistance during the construction phase. At this stage, adaptations or modifications to the initial designs might be necessary, subject to strict time limits, cost restrictions and the need to find the right solution. Our team’s specific expertise, deep experience and exceptional technical background can assist a designer or developer in finding the right solution. Our goal is to see a project throughout its different development stages, delivering a functional, attractive and on-spec result.
